A zinc rich coating is a coating that
contains a high percentage of zinc dust and, when in direct contact with steel,
works sacrificially. To protect steel surfaces from corrosion and extend the
life of the surface, zinc rich coatings are added. We Protexion’s zinc richcoating offer superior long-term protection for steel from corrosion
and have excellent adhesive and protective properties. For structural steel
surfaces, they perform similarly to galvanizing.
To protect
steel substrates from corrosion, zinc
rich coatings are used by many industries. They are used in applications in
highways and infrastructure, manufacturing and automotive. Zinc primers
selectively corrode steel when in contact with structural steel, shielding it
from damage. For agricultural, coastal, aquatic and freshwater settings, this
form of industrial coating is well
suited. This may include the use of steel tanks, offshore platforms, barges,
refineries, petrochemical and power plants, such as coatings for railcars, pulp
and paper mills, and other recommended areas.
Features of Zinc Rich
Coating
·
It
is characterized by sufficient resistance to abrasion.
·
Retains
the role of self-preservation of the surface and self-healing during service
life.
·
The
interatomic distance in the zinc layer, applied by the bath immersion phase, is
close to the interatomic distance in the zinc layer.
·
UV-stable,
with a noble gray hue.
·
Forming
a stable subdispersion region of Zn-Fe on the metal surface.
·
It
has the property of interlayer diffusion.
·
It
is applied even in winter at a temperature of -35°C.
Zinc Rich Coating is readily compatible with 99% of organic-soluble top
coatings. Polyurethane, urethane-acrylic, acrylic, epoxy resin, vinyl chloride,
chlorinated rubber, and alkyl coatings are reliably compatible. For ideal
compatibility, the holding time after application of Zinc-rich coating composition should be minimum 4-5 hours for the
solvent to evaporate and not prevent adhesion in the future. The product can be
used as a primer for powder paints.
The
following series of six operations comprises the workflow for obtaining an anti corrosion coating based on the
zinc-rich coating composition. It is recommended to preserve the anticorrosion
coating workflow at an ambient temperature not lower than -35 ° C. The
following conditions should be met in order to conduct anticorrosion protection
operations in winter:
·
provide
awnings or screening for protection against the elements;
·
the
metal surface temperature should be no less than 3°С higher than the dew point
temperature.
1. Preparing the surface for application
of Zinc-rich coating
2. Preparing the working composition for
application
3. Applying Zinc-rich coating
4. Final holding of Zinc-rich coating
prior to its commissioning
5. Quality control of Zinc-rich coating
6. Drying successively applied coatings
